Turkey and Niger Agree to Expand Defence, Security and Economic Cooperation

Istanbul (Turkiye News Desk): Turkey and Niger have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of defence, security, and economic development.

In a joint press conference, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Turkey is advancing its relations with African countries based on the principles of equal partnership, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.

He stated that Turkey stands with its friendly and brotherly nations in the fight against terrorist organizations that create instability in Africa, particularly in the Sahel region.

Both leaders held bilateral and delegation-level talks at the presidential palace, followed by the signing of agreements in various sectors.

The discussions covered expanded cooperation in defence, security, energy, mining, trade, investment, education, health, and agriculture.

President Erdoğan said that investment opportunities in Niger were reviewed and both sides agreed to strengthen economic and trade relations further. He added that closer cooperation was also discussed in military training and intelligence sharing.

He noted that Turkey is ready to share its counter-terrorism experience with Niger, and that meetings between Turkish defence companies and Nigerien delegations are expected to yield positive results.

The President of Niger praised Turkey’s support, saying that its role in defence, health, and education is highly valuable. He added that President Erdoğan’s 2013 visit marked the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations.
