Supreme Court: Men Are Protectors, Not Killers — Husband’s Appeal Rejected in Wife’s Murder Case

Islamabad (Turkiya Khabar) – The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Warish Masih, a drug-addicted husband who murdered his wife, upholding his life imprisonment sentence. The court stated that men are meant to be protectors of women, not killers.

A bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim issued a written verdict emphasizing that women are equal members of society and deserve protection, respect, and dignity.

The verdict noted that women often face brutal violence over minor matters, and drug addiction is a major factor contributing to such savage treatment. The court stressed that no one can be allowed to violate the sacred bonds of mother, sister, wife, or daughter. The state must ensure women’s protection through comprehensive legislation, enforcement mechanisms, and supportive programs. Protecting women is a constitutional duty under Article 9 (Right to Life and Liberty) and Article 25 (Equality) of the Constitution.

According to the prosecution, the accused, a habitual drug user, frequently quarreled with his wife, Jameela Bibi. On the night of 6 July 2015, he brutally attacked his wife and their two young children, Ramsha Masih and Ramesh Masih, with sticks. The accused’s daughter, Ramsha, survived as a witness and provided eyewitness testimony against her father.
