Ramadan Begins in Saudi Arabia and Gulf Countries

Riyadh (Monitoring Desk) – The holy month of Ramadan has begun in Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries, and Afghanistan, with the first fast being observed today.

Last night, spiritually uplifting Tarawih prayers were held at Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, where thousands of Muslims from around the world offered prostrations and prayers of gratitude and forgiveness.

In Iraq, Oman, Turkey, Indonesia, and Malaysia, the first fast will be observed tomorrow, while Central Asian countries including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan will begin Ramadan on Thursday. Bangladesh, India, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and France will also observe the first fast tomorrow.

In Pakistan, a key meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held in Peshawar today to sight the Ramadan moon, chaired by Chairman Abdul Khabeer Azad. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meetings will also take place across the country to collect moon sighting reports. According to meteorological authorities and experts, there are strong chances of sighting the moon in various regions, after which the official announcement of Ramadan will be made.
