Azerbaijan (Turkish News): Azerbaijan will conduct a comprehensive review of the current legal and institutional framework for protecting intellectual property rights, patent administration, and licensing systems to assess their alignment and identify gaps.
According to the news agency report, potential amendments to the Law on Patents will be analyzed, and if necessary, a draft law will be prepared and submitted to the relevant authority. These measures are planned to be completed by September.
Similarly, the Law on Trademarks and Geographical Indications will be reviewed for improvement, and a new law will be prepared if required.
In addition, an initial analysis will be conducted on the risks, ethical implications, and environmental compliance of applying open science and artificial intelligence technologies, based on international experiences.
Plans also include clarifying legal exemptions for using industrial property protected under patents for scientific research purposes. It has been proposed to include in the law a requirement for trademark holders to act responsibly in the use of registered trademarks.
The responsibility for implementing these measures has been assigned to the Intellectual Property Agency, Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Justice, and the Anti-Trust and Consumer Market Supervision Agency under the President.
