Ankara (Turkiye News): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Professor Dr. Safi Arpagosh, head of the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), along with a delegation of senior religious and administrative officials at the Presidential Palace.
The meeting reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and communication between state institutions and religious leadership.
According to official sources, the discussions focused on ongoing projects, enhancing the role of religious institutions in society, and promoting social harmony.
Professor Dr. Safi Arpagosh previously served as a professor of Sufism at Marmara University’s Faculty of Theology and was Istanbul’s Mufti from 2021 to 2025. He assumed the position of head of Diyanet on September 18, 2025, succeeding Professor Dr. Ali Erbash.
This high-level meeting is seen as a significant step toward aligning state policies with religious leadership, addressing internal social challenges, and strengthening national unity in Turkey.
