Istanbul (Turkish News): According to sources in Istanbul, Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh will undertake an official visit to Turkey. During the visit, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who will host the Palestinian vice president, is expected to reaffirm Turkey’s full support for Palestine, the protection of Palestinian rights, and the vision of a two-state solution.
Fidan will emphasize that the Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot undermine international and regional efforts for a two-state solution through illegal actions and annexation policies in the occupied Palestinian territories. The minister will also stress that the international community has a responsibility to prevent the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and will consult on the work of the Peace Council, related mechanisms, the ground situation, and potential next steps.
He will highlight that Israel is obstructing the Peace Council’s work, and that immediate reconstruction and recovery efforts in Gaza must begin. International measures are needed to halt illegal settlements and territorial expansion.
Discussions will also cover the closure of holy sites in East Jerusalem, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque, with Fidan deeming the Israeli administration’s stance unacceptable and emphasizing that a resolution of the Palestinian issue is essential for lasting regional stability. He will underline the importance of revitalizing Palestinian reconciliation while reflecting on the historical challenges faced by the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, Fidan will update on Turkey’s diplomatic efforts with regional countries and steps toward peace, highlighting regional risks arising from Israel’s increasing attacks and occupation policies in Lebanon.
It is noteworthy that on March 19, 2025, Foreign Minister Fidan had welcomed Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh in Ankara as Chief Negotiator and Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
