Istanbul (Turkiye News) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has emphasized the importance of the East–West Middle Corridor passing through the Caspian Sea, describing it as the modern-day Silk Road.
Addressing a press conference in Kazakhstan, Erdoğan said the significance of this trade and energy corridor is becoming increasingly clear with each passing day.
He noted that the sixth meeting of the Turkey–Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was successfully held, during which several agreements were signed to enhance cooperation in multiple sectors.
The Turkish President said discussions covered key areas including trade, transport, energy, health, mining, culture, education, technology, and defense industry cooperation between the two countries.
Erdoğan added that new opportunities for collaboration are emerging among business communities, and joint defense industry projects will increase trade and investment.
He further stated that Turkey will continue working with Kazakhstan and other partners to promote cargo and energy flows between East and West through this corridor.
He also noted efforts are underway to transport large quantities of crude oil from Kazakhstan—one of the major oil-exporting countries—through Turkey to global markets.
