New gas reserves discovered in Waziristan, production begins in major boost to energy sector

Islamabad (Turkiye Khabar): A significant development has emerged in the country’s oil and gas sector, as production of gas and condensate has commenced from the Spinwam-1 well in the Waziristan Block.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik formally inaugurated the project. According to Mari Energies, this discovery will strengthen Pakistan’s energy needs, with an initial production capacity of around 40 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Officials stated that the total gas supply from the Waziristan Block has increased to nearly 100 million cubic feet per day. The federal minister appreciated the role of law enforcement agencies in completing the project and termed their sacrifices commendable.

Mari Energies also noted that the Shewa-1 and Spinwam-1 projects have been connected to the national gas network, which will help reduce reliance on imported fuel through better utilization of local resources.

The project is a joint venture involving Mari Energies, OGDCL, and Orient Petroleum. The company further stated that more exploration and production projects are expected in Waziristan in the near future.
