Karachi (Showbiz Desk): Internationally renowned Pakistani singer Ali Zafar has described the meeting between Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar as a positive development at the start of the new year. Sharing a photo of the two leaders shaking hands on social media platform X, he expressed hope that this moment could become a symbol of positive change in the region.
Ali Zafar said that seeing such an image on the first day of the new year is heartening, and that if Pakistan and India move beyond past tensions and negative narratives, the path toward lasting peace could be paved. He added that by rising above hate-driven discourse, trolling, and negativity, new opportunities for progress and prosperity could emerge for the people of both countries.
The singer expressed hope that 2026 would prove to be a year of peace and advancement, and termed the meeting a new turning point, particularly in the context of the Pakistan–India cricket handshake controversy.
It is worth noting that despite prolonged tensions between Pakistan and India, this meeting between Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq took place in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, where both leaders were present to attend the funeral of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. According to sources, Jaishankar personally approached Ayaz Sadiq, and a cordial conversation took place between the two.
This meeting is being regarded as the first direct high-level contact since the Pakistan–India conflict in May, and is being termed an unexpected and significant development in political circles.
