Islamabad (Turkey Khabar): Senator Maulana Ataur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, while strongly criticizing the policies of the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments, declared the situation in the province to be extremely alarming. Addressing the House, he said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has practically been left at the mercy of terrorists and the situation has reached such a point that people feel insecure. He said that law and order in the province is at its peak of deterioration, bodies are being lifted daily, yet elected representatives are not even allowed to speak. He said that government indifference has taken a dangerous turn and this attitude could, God forbid, lead the country towards division.
Maulana Ataur Rehman, while referring to the situation in Lakki Marwat, said that bloodshed has become routine in various areas including Naurang Bazaar, citizens have confined themselves to their homes and life comes to a standstill after sunset. He demanded that an in-camera session be immediately convened to review the situation so that facts can come to light, however, this demand is continuously being ignored.
He further said that ignoring the blood being shed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan is unacceptable and it is creating the impression that the lives of people in these areas have no value. He appealed to the establishment and relevant institutions to understand the pain of the people and take serious measures.
The senator also criticized the provincial government, saying that the writ of the government is not visible in the province, while the Chief Minister appears non-serious despite the gravity of the situation.
On the other hand, Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, responding to the statement of Maulana Ataur Rehman, said that the impression that no one's voice is being heard is not correct. He said that the country’s armed forces and security institutions are carrying out full operations against terrorism and the entire nation is united in this war.
He said that in Bannu and Lakki Marwat, the enemy is targeting soft targets, however, the government and state institutions are determined to defeat the terrorists. He further said that it is not correct to limit terrorism to any one province and Pakistan will remain standing and enduring in all circumstances.
