Beirut (Monitoring Desk) Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has said that Israel must fully comply with the ceasefire before the start of negotiations between the two countries.
In his statement, he said that the only path to security is negotiations, and if Israel believes it can achieve its objectives through violations of the ceasefire and destruction of border areas, then it is mistaken.
According to the Lebanese President, effective protection of borders is only possible when the state maintains full authority over the southern regions and up to the international borders. He said Lebanon is awaiting the announcement of a date by the United States for the start of negotiations.
He further stated that the presence of the Lebanese issue on the table of US President Donald Trump is an opportunity that can be used to move the country toward peace and stability.
President Joseph Aoun said that the country faces several challenges in achieving stability and the government is continuing diplomatic efforts to reduce the impact of military operations. He made it clear that continued attacks despite a ceasefire are unacceptable.
He said that the current situation can only be resolved through negotiations instead of violence, and this is the path that must be adopted.
