Hockey Legend Glenn Hall Passes Away at 94

Azerbaijan (Sports Desk) Hall of Fame member and hockey legend Glenn Hall has passed away at the age of 94. He is remembered for his remarkable streak of 502 consecutive games, a record that remains unbroken in NHL history.

Known as “Mr. Goalie,” Hall defended the net during an era when players competed without masks. Like most of his contemporaries, he delivered exceptional performances spanning from the “Original Six” era to the league’s expansion years.

A Chicago Blackhawks spokesperson confirmed that the team had received notice of Hall’s passing from his family. According to a league historian, Hall passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in Stony Plain, Alberta.

Hall was a pioneer of the “butterfly style” goaltending technique, in which goalies drop to their knees to block shots. He helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 1961 and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs in 1968 while with the St. Louis Blues, when the team reached the finals but lost to Montreal.
