Azerbaijan (Showbiz Desk): The Azerbaijani feature film Buta, produced by the Ministry of Culture, was showcased in Rome, Italy, to introduce Azerbaijani cinema to the international audience.
The event was jointly organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Italy, the Azerbaijan Cultural Center, and the association La Lampadina – Periodic Illuminations, and was held at Cinema Caravaggio.
Directed by Elgar Najaf, Buta tells the story of a seven-year-old boy living in a remote mountain village, highlighting themes of love, tradition, and ancient Azerbaijani symbols.
The film was previously submitted by Azerbaijan for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars. Produced between 2009 and 2011, Buta won the “Best Children’s Feature Film” award at the 2012 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Before the screening, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Italy Rashad Aslanov said that showcasing national films internationally plays a vital role in promoting the country’s culture. The film drew significant interest from the local Azerbaijani community as well as Italy’s cultural and academic circles.
