Global Gas Demand Grows Less Than 1% in 2025: IEA Report

Turkey (Commerce Desk):According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global gas demand in 2025 increased by less than 1%, reaching approximately 4.29 trillion cubic meters. Most of the growth was observed in Europe and North America, as reported by News EA Zi.

The agency highlighted that after relatively strong growth in 2024, there was a significant slowdown in 2025. Preliminary figures indicate that global demand growth remained modest.

Regional Insights:

  • Europe (including Turkey) and North America experienced growth primarily due to colder weather and increased gas usage for electricity generation.
  • Asia saw moderate demand.
  • Europe recorded its highest growth since 2021, about 3% (12 billion cubic meters), partially due to cold weather and reduced renewable energy output.
  • In North America, gas consumption increased by nearly 1%, largely driven by harsh winter conditions.
