Global conference on rights of persons with disabilities in New York, Azerbaijan presents reforms

Baku (Turkiye News): The 19th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has begun in New York.

Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Head of the Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection Ulvi Huseynov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the State Medical-Social Expertise and Rehabilitation Agency Rashad Mahrumov.

Addressing the conference, Ulvi Huseynov said that Azerbaijan joined the convention in October 2008 and has since implemented a number of significant reforms to protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

He stated that the country has strengthened its social protection system, digitized disability assessment procedures, and introduced automated systems for the delivery of social benefits and services to ensure transparency and convenience.

He further said that modern digital solutions have been adopted to improve rehabilitation and social inclusion services for persons with disabilities, making access easier and more efficient.

During the conference, a side event on the rights of mine victims was also held, where Azerbaijani representatives provided detailed briefings on protection, rehabilitation, and psychological support measures.
