Erdogan Talks to Trump, Stresses Cooperation on Gaza Crisis

Ankara/Washington (Turkey News): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump over the phone, emphasizing Turkey’s desire to enhance cooperation with Washington. Erdoğan highlighted the need for full implementation of the ceasefire in Syria and urged joint efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, according to a statement from the Presidential Communications Directorate.

During the call, both leaders discussed security, regional stability, and humanitarian issues. Erdoğan affirmed that Turkey will continue strengthening collaboration with the U.S. and emphasized the importance of progress in all areas of bilateral relations.

He stressed the significance of continuous communication and cooperation between Turkey and the U.S. regarding Syria and noted Turkey’s role in monitoring the ceasefire and implementation agreements jointly with the U.S. and Syrian parties.

Erdoğan also praised the Gaza Peace Board and expressed hope that it would facilitate important progress. He highlighted that ending the humanitarian crisis and initiating reconstruction efforts in Gaza are essential for establishing sustainable peace in the region.

At the beginning of January, the White House announced the establishment of the Gaza Peace Board with approval from the National Committee, coinciding with the start of the second phase of the ceasefire, which halted Israel’s offensive in Gaza. Since October 2023, the conflict has killed over 71,000 people and injured more than 171,000.
