Lahore (Showbiz Desk): It has been 31 years since Urdu literary icon Parveen Shakir left her admirers, yet her poetry continues to live in the hearts of readers.

Her verses, filled with love, fragrance, flowers, wind, and the touch of butterflies, still captivate those with a literary taste. In recognition of her literary contributions, Parveen Shakir was awarded the Adamjee Literary Award and the country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Award for Excellence.

Born on November 4, 1952, into a literary family in Karachi, Parveen Shakir began her literary journey at a young age. Alongside prose, her poetry brought her fame, and her ghazals and poems hold a prominent place in Urdu literature today.

Initially, she wrote under the pen name “Bina,” but her first poetry collection, Khushbu, published in 1976, marked a major milestone in her career, earning her the title “The Poetess of Fragrance.” Her later works include Sad Barg, Khud Kalami, Inkaar, Mah-e-Tamam, Kaf-e-Aaina, and Gosha-e-Chashm.

Despite passing away at the age of 42 in a car accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994, Parveen Shakir’s poetry continues to enchant readers across generations, keeping her legacy alive in Urdu literature.
