Venezuela Vice President Appointed Interim President Amid Maduro Absence

Caracas (Monitoring Desk): Venezuela’s Supreme Court has temporarily assigned Vice President Delcy Rodríguez the responsibilities of the presidency following the reported abduction of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. According to the court order, Rodríguez will exercise all presidential powers to ensure administrative continuity and national defense.

In a televised address, Vice President Rodríguez condemned the armed aggression targeting the country and announced that the National Defense Council has been activated. She added that further government responses are expected within the coming hours and emphasized Venezuela’s readiness for legal and dignified dialogue.

Supreme Court judges refrained from permanently removing Maduro from office, as that would necessitate new elections within 30 days.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will remain involved in Venezuelan affairs until a secure transfer of power is possible, with American oil companies continuing operations in the country.
