Washington (Monitoring Desk) – Despite ongoing but slow-moving nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, American officials have begun preparations to deploy a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East to increase pressure on Tehran.
According to media reports, the USS George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group has been placed on high alert for deployment. The Nimitz-class supercarrier is nuclear-powered and, following training exercises, will be ready for potential deployment within the next two weeks.
Experts note that if the USS George H.W. Bush reaches the region, it will join the USS Abraham Lincoln, marking the first time in a year that two U.S. supercarriers will be operational in the Middle East simultaneously. This move is being viewed as a clear military signal to Iran. Recent weeks have also seen reports of rising tensions between U.S. and Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz and the Arabian Sea.
