Washington (Monitoring Desk): In the U.S. Senate, Republican members supported President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Iran and voted against a bipartisan resolution aimed at preventing war. The resolution sought to require congressional approval before any military action could be taken.
The vote saw 53 senators in favor of blocking the resolution and 47 against, resulting in its rejection by a simple majority.
Supporters of this latest effort—led by Democrats and a few Republicans during Trump’s administration to limit overseas troop deployments—argued that the resolution was intended to restore Congress’s constitutional responsibility in declaring war.
