Turkish President Erdoğan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Condole Helicopter Crash

Istanbul (Turkish News) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressed condolences over a helicopter crash during a phone call, the Turkish Directorate of Communications reported.

According to the statement, the leaders also discussed recent developments in the region. Erdoğan and Sheikh Tamim exchanged condolences regarding the helicopter accident that occurred within the Qatar-Turkey Joint Force Command.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that the incident took place on Friday evening when a Qatari Armed Forces helicopter crashed into the sea during training exercises due to a technical fault. Seven people were killed, including four Qatari Armed Forces personnel, one member of the Turkish Armed Forces, and two technicians from the defense company Aselsan.

During the call, Sheikh Tamim thanked Erdoğan for his efforts “to prevent war in our region” and emphasized that “teams from both countries will remain in constant contact.”
