New Peace Developments in South Caucasus, Hope for Full Restoration of Turkey–Armenia Relations

London (Turkey News) Diplomatic activity in the South Caucasus region is being described as the beginning of a “new era,” where Armenian officials and European Union mediators are intensifying efforts for the full normalization of relations with Turkey and the establishment of lasting peace with Azerbaijan.

The European Union’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus Magdalena Grono described the current situation in the region as a “strategic moment,” saying that the area is moving toward a highly encouraging level of stability.

She said that the leaderships in Baku and Yerevan have taken bold steps to open a new chapter. According to her, the opening of the border between Turkey and Armenia would allow Armenia greater integration into regional trade and create new opportunities for transit and connectivity.

According to the European representative, the European Union remains hopeful about the peace process in the region, institutional stability, and the full diplomatic normalization between Turkey and Armenia.

Improving relations between Armenia and Turkey is being linked to a broader peace process in the South Caucasus, while Ankara has consistently followed a policy of consultation with Azerbaijan. Nikol Pashinyan

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed hope that he may visit Azerbaijan in 2028 for a meeting of the European Political Community, which is being described as an extraordinary development in the region.

Meanwhile, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister has called the recent intensifying diplomatic dialogue between Turkey and Armenia “historic,” saying that multilateral talks are ongoing in various sectors, including cultural heritage and transport infrastructure.
