Turkey Emphasizes Two-State Solution on Cyprus Issue

Ankara (Turkiye Khabar) Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, to discuss the latest developments in the Cyprus dispute.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting also reviewed recent contacts made by the special representative with both leaders of the island.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated on the occasion that Turkey continues to support the United Nations’ efforts; however, Ankara’s position is that the only realistic and viable solution to the Cyprus issue is peaceful coexistence through two separate states on the island.

He further said that any solution that ignores the sovereign equal rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and their equal international status cannot produce positive results.

It is worth noting that the Cyprus issue has remained unresolved for decades, during which multiple diplomatic efforts by the United Nations to bridge the gap between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides have failed.
