Trump Calls Reza Pahlavi “Courteous,” Questions Leadership Support in Iran

Washington (Monitoring Desk): U.S. President Donald Trump described Iranian opposition leader Reza Pahlavi as courteous and dignified, but expressed doubts about his ability to gain popular support if he were to assume leadership in Iran.

In an interview with Reuters from the Oval Office, Trump noted that while the possibility of regime change in Iran exists, the acceptance of Pahlavi’s leadership remains uncertain. He clarified that he does not plan to meet Pahlavi and has not offered full endorsement.

Pahlavi, living in the U.S. after leaving Iran following his father’s exile during the 1979 Islamic Revolution, has become a prominent voice in recent Iranian protests. Trump added that whether or not Iran’s system changes, the current period will remain interesting, with the possibility of government failures.
