Washington (Monitoring Desk) – US officials have revealed that the administration secretly sent thousands of Starlink devices to Iran to help opposition activists maintain communication following Tehran’s tightening of internet restrictions.
According to officials, approximately 6,000 satellite internet devices were smuggled into Iran. A report by The Wall Street Journal stated that this marks the first time Washington directly sent Starlink equipment to Iran. The move reportedly came after a recent wave of unrest and strict government crackdowns on internet services.
Sources said the US State Department had purchased around 7,000 Starlink devices in recent months to assist anti-regime activists in staying connected despite internet shutdowns. President Donald Trump was reportedly aware of the shipments; however, officials did not confirm whether he or any other senior official had directly authorized the operation.
