Saudi Arabia’s Role on Yemen Is Commendable: Thabet Al-Ahmadi

Yemen (Monitoring Desk): Amid rising tensions between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council, Yemeni Presidential Advisor Thabet Al-Ahmadi has praised Saudi Arabia’s role regarding Yemen. He stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is among Yemen’s most important and foremost supporters, and that its backing during difficult times has been highly commendable.

In an interview with Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, Thabet Al-Ahmadi said that Yemen and the United Arab Emirates share many common political and cultural aspects; however, differences are limited to the southern issue. He added that the Yemeni government is making serious efforts to reduce tensions and prevent bloodshed.

He also confirmed that the resumption of air travel at Aden Airport is expected soon. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, warned that continued interference by the forces of the Southern Transitional Council could lead to actions the government would not welcome. He noted that any potential advance toward Wadi Hadramout is being closely monitored.

On the other hand, Hadramout Governor Salem Al-Khanbashi accused the Southern Transitional Council of keeping its forces in constant mobilization instead of focusing on de-escalation and peace efforts. At the same time, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, clarified that Yemen does not deny the UAE’s initial role and cooperation and acknowledges its past support.
