Washington (Monitoring Desk): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to warn Venezuela’s interim leadership that failure to comply with Washington’s demands could result in consequences similar to those faced by former President Nicolas Maduro.
According to a prepared statement, Marco Rubio will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stating that former Vice President and current interim President Delcy Rodríguez is fully aware of Maduro’s fate.
Rubio said that the United States believes Delcy Rodríguez’s personal interests align with Washington’s core objectives. He added that under clear directives from the President, if all other options fail, the United States would not hesitate to use force to ensure maximum cooperation, a reference to remarks previously made by President Donald Trump.
It is noteworthy that Marco Rubio, himself a former senator, agreed to appear before the Senate committee after Democrats accused the Trump administration weeks earlier of misleading Congress and exceeding its authority regarding the use of force.
It may be recalled that on January 3, US forces carried out an operation in Caracas, arresting left-wing leader and staunch Washington critic former President Nicolas Maduro along with his wife, Cilia Flores.
