Quetta Local Body Elections Postponed, Court Suspends Schedule

Islamabad (Turkiya News): Following a court order, the Election Commission of Pakistan has postponed the local body elections in Quetta until further notice, suspending the schedule for the elections originally set for December 28, 2025.

Earlier, the Federal Shariat Court had also decided to suspend the elections scheduled for December 28, 2025, issuing notices to Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, the Election Commission, and other parties for written responses.

The court has adjourned the hearing of the case until the third week of January and, under the decision of the Balochistan High Court, declared the Quetta local body election schedule suspended.

Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court, Justice Aminuddin Khan, remarked that if the elections are to be invalidated, there is no point in conducting them. Justice Aamir Farooq also noted that violations of the law could lead to irregularities.

The Election Commission has announced that further instructions will be issued following the court’s order, and all relevant parties will be informed accordingly.
