Pentagon briefing sees unusual question: “Does Iran have suicide dolphins?” US officials give sarcastic and cautious response

Washington (Monitoring Desk)A routine press briefing at the Pentagon took an unusual turn when a question regarding so-called “kamikaze dolphins” allegedly linked to Iran was raised.

During the briefing, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine were present. They were asked whether Iran had trained dolphins for military purposes and used them in potential attacks.

Responding with surprise, General Caine sarcastically asked whether the question referred to “laser-beam sharks,” a reference to a popular fictional concept from films.

Later, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that he could neither confirm nor deny the existence of such dolphins, but stated clearly that Iran does not possess any such system.

The question followed unverified reports suggesting that Iran might be exploring unconventional military capabilities. According to the Wall Street Journal, some claims even mentioned submarines and “dolphins carrying explosives,” though no official confirmation exists.

Iranian officials have also dismissed such reports as baseless and absurd.

During the same briefing, the Defense Secretary also referred to the ongoing “Project Freedom” mission in the Strait of Hormuz, aimed at securing global maritime trade and ensuring the continuity of energy supply routes, according to US officials.
