Islamabad (Turkey News) — Pakistan and Kazakhstan have signed 19 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements across various sectors, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion within a year.
The signing ceremony was held in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan signed a joint declaration. The agreements cover cooperation in mining, petroleum, prisoner exchanges, maritime, transit trade, customs, railways, health, plant protection, veterinary services, artificial intelligence, digital development, climate change, higher education, culture, logistics, virtual assets, and ports.
Prime Minister Sharif said the visit would give new momentum to bilateral relations and emphasized the commitment to implement the MoUs, which will enhance economic and cultural cooperation. He also prayed for the restoration of peace in Gaza and highlighted opportunities to increase trade volume.
President Tokayev said Pakistan is a reliable partner and described the joint declaration and agreements as significant for bilateral relations. He emphasized collaboration to achieve the $1 billion trade target and stressed strengthening cooperation in trade, aviation, production, education, science, and Islamic finance. He also invited Prime Minister Sharif to visit Kazakhstan.
Earlier, a ceremonial reception was held at the Prime Minister’s House in honor of the Kazakh President, featuring a guard of honor, the playing of national anthems, and the planting of a commemorative tree.
