Lahore (Turkey Khabar): The Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore has issued its written verdict in two cases related to the events of May 9. Under the decision, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed has been sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 600,000, while Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfaraz Cheema have each been awarded 10 years of imprisonment.
According to the court’s verdict, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed was given separate sentences under different sections of the law, which cumulatively amount to 33 years. The court acquitted 23 accused due to insufficient evidence, while seven accused were convicted after the charges against them were proven.
The verdict stated that evidence was found showing the presence of Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfaraz Cheema in a meeting related to conspiracy. According to the prosecution, four political leaders allegedly incited the public to carry out incidents of arson and vandalism across the country.
The court was informed that various WhatsApp messages, data from 70 social media accounts, and forensic reports were presented in the case. As per the verdict, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) declared the accused guilty, and the accused did not challenge the JIT report before any forum.
The court held that although the accused declared themselves innocent in their statements, the prosecution succeeded in proving its case on the basis of evidence.
