Riyadh (Monitoring Desk): A major political upheaval has rocked Yemen after the head of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, abruptly fled to an undisclosed location despite earlier confirming his participation in comprehensive talks on Southern Yemen held in Riyadh. Following his disappearance, Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council announced his immediate removal from membership.
According to Yemen’s official news agency Saba, the Presidential Leadership Council stated on Wednesday that Aidarous Al-Zubaidi has been suspended on serious charges of treason and referred to the Public Prosecutor. The action has been taken under Article 125 of the Penal Code.
The statement said Al-Zubaidi is accused of attacking the constitutional framework of the state, obstructing government measures, and forming an armed group involved in the killing of military officers and personnel.
Authorities further alleged that he exploited the situation in Southern Yemen for personal political objectives, committed violations against civilians, and carried out acts of sabotage by targeting installations and military bases—offenses that fall under Article 126 of the law.
Officials warned that the extraordinary decision has deepened political uncertainty in the country and raised serious questions about the future of Southern Yemen.
