Baku (Turkey News): The implementation of a parliamentary-approved amnesty decision marking the constitutional and sovereignty year has been completed in Azerbaijan.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the amnesty was implemented over a period of four months, with participation from non-governmental organizations, media representatives, and civil society members.
Officials described the move as a continuation of the state’s humanitarian policy and called it one of the largest amnesty measures to date, benefiting a total of 23,935 individuals.
According to details, more than 5,000 people were fully released from prison, while over 3,500 inmates had their sentences reduced. Thousands of others were also exempted from non-custodial penalties, including fines, corrective labor, military-related punishments, and other restrictions.
Additionally, thousands of individuals under trial or in investigative stages were also exempted from criminal liability.
Authorities said the move reflects the promotion of humanitarian values, social justice, and rehabilitative policies within the country’s judicial and penal system.
