Iran–US Nuclear Talks Enter Decisive Phase

Washington (Monitoring Desk): Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the formal commencement of the third round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States. Diplomatic sources describe this phase as critical in determining the future direction of bilateral relations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi in Geneva ahead of the negotiating session. During the meeting, both sides engaged in detailed discussions regarding the clauses of the proposed nuclear agreement and the final points of the talks. According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the two parties also consulted on the future roadmap.

Meanwhile, US envoy Steve Witkoff stated that Washington seeks any new agreement with Iran to remain effective for an indefinite period. He noted that two fundamental issues in the current negotiations are Iran’s uranium enrichment capability and the future of its existing stockpiles of enriched material.

Following the arrival of the Iranian delegation in Geneva, President Masoud Pezeshkian issued positive statements, saying Iran sees potential progress in indirect negotiations and is striving, under the guidance of its leadership, to move beyond a prolonged period of tension. He added that Tehran is seeking a solution that promotes stability in the region.

Diplomatic circles believe that this round of talks in Geneva could prove pivotal, as the outcome will be communicated to US President Donald Trump, after which the next course of action will be decided. The United States has already intensified economic pressure on Iran and reinforced its military presence in the Middle East.

Washington has indicated that if a long-term agreement regarding the nuclear program is not reached, further stringent measures may be considered. In a recent address, President Trump reiterated his policy toward Iran, emphasizing that a clear and sustainable agreement is essential for regional stability.

Iran continues to assert that its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful energy purposes. However, diplomatic sources say significant differences remain between the two countries over the mechanism and timeline for lifting sanctions. This phase of negotiations is being viewed as an attempt to break the ongoing deadlock.
