Iran Announces Emergency Economic Measures to Ensure Food and Medicine Supply

Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Amid wartime conditions and growing uncertainty, the Iranian government has introduced emergency economic measures to ensure the supply of food and essential medicines.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the government has decided to restore a preferential foreign exchange rate for importing essential goods such as wheat, medicines, and infant milk formula, allocating $3.5 billion for this purpose.

The report states that this exchange rate has been set lower than the open market rate to facilitate imports and provide relief to the public.

In addition, the government has decided to withdraw $1 billion from the National Development Fund to increase reserves of rice, sugar, meat, and other essential commodities to prevent potential shortages.

Reports further indicate that inflation has risen in the country, while monthly financial assistance to citizens remains limited, with discussions ongoing about possible increases.

Economic pressure, employment challenges, and internet disruptions have also affected business activity, leading to an increase in public tendency to stockpile essential goods.

Authorities say there is no immediate risk of food shortages in Iran, and alternative import channels are available, although public concern remains high.
