Washington/Minneapolis (Monitoring Desk): US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem is facing intense criticism for allegedly spreading misleading information about the killing of an armed man during a protest in Minnesota.
Noem had claimed that immigration authorities killed a person who intended to commit “mass murder”, but later videos contradicted this official account. The incident has exposed internal confusion and disagreements within the Trump administration.
White House officials have blamed the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) department for the misinformation. Some sources indicate that senior presidential adviser Stephen Miller promoted the “mass murder” narrative without verifying the facts. Reports suggest Miller’s influence over Noem is significant, and she admitted to acting in accordance with the President and Miller’s guidance.
Immediately after the incident, relevant officers remained silent and consulted legal advisors, which created a gap in information. Later, publicly shared videos revealed that the deceased did not attempt to draw a weapon, prompting President Trump to express anger.
To manage the situation, President Trump sent Tom Homan, responsible for border affairs and a known critic of Miller’s aggressive methods, to Minnesota. Meanwhile, Noem met with President Trump at the White House to reaffirm her loyalty, though she reportedly complained in private that she had been left alone during the crisis.
The White House stated that both Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem retain their positions for now, and the administration is attempting to regain control over the situation.
