Hunger and Poverty Reach Alarming Levels in Afghanistan

Kabul (Monitoring Desk): Under the Taliban government, Afghanistan is witnessing a severe humanitarian crisis, with poverty, hunger, and destitution making it increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to meet basic needs.

According to the latest report by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), nearly 17 million people in the country are facing extreme food shortages, hunger, and poverty as they struggle to survive the winter. The report warns that the number of children suffering from malnutrition could reach 4 million, the highest level in decades.

Global organizations highlight that the severe economic crisis has devastated the lives of Afghan citizens. Job opportunities are nearly nonexistent, and income sources have almost dried up, leaving millions of families unable to secure basic necessities.

UNICEF reports that nearly 90% of children under the age of two are suffering from malnutrition, marking a grave humanitarian disaster. International agencies attribute this crisis to the Taliban regime’s incompetence, indifference, and support for terrorist groups.

Reports also indicate that Taliban rulers are engaged in extravagance using funds obtained through corruption and illegal means, while the Afghan populace is forced to live below the poverty line.
