Draft of Defense Pact Prepared Between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey; Final Discussions Ongoing

Islamabad (Turkey News): Federal Minister for Defence Production, Raza Hyat Haraj, stated that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey have prepared a draft of a defense agreement after nearly a year of discussions. Speaking to the British news agency Reuters, Haraj said that this potential trilateral agreement is different from the bilateral pact announced last year between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Full consensus among the three countries is required to finalize the agreement.

The federal minister added that the trilateral agreement is currently in the pipeline, with the draft under consideration by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Reuters noted that this development could indicate the three countries’ intent to strengthen mutual cooperation in light of rising regional tensions and security concerns.

Meanwhile, during a press conference in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that discussions have indeed taken place, but no agreement has been finalized yet. He added that broader regional cooperation and trust-building are necessary to overcome mistrust in the region, as such mistrust often leads to instability caused by external influence, conflict, or terrorism.
