Digital Terrorism Case: Five Accused Sentenced to Double Life Imprisonment

Islamabad (Turkiya News): Islamabad’s Anti-Terrorism Court has sentenced Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, Wajahat Saeed, Sabir Shakir, and Mueed Pirzada to double life imprisonment in a digital terrorism case against state institutions. The court also imposed an additional combined sentence of 35 years in prison and a fine of 1.5 million PKR on the accused under other charges.

On May 9, Judge Tahir Abbas Sapra of the Anti-Terrorism Court announced the reserved verdict, stating that the trial was completed in the absence of the accused at the prosecution’s request. During the hearings, a total of 24 witnesses testified in court.

In the Abpara police case, Sabir Shakir, Mueed Pirzada, and Syed Akbar Hussain were handed life sentences, while in the Ramna police case, Shaheen Sahbai, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed were sentenced to prison. The accused were represented in court by their previously appointed lawyer, Gulfam Ashraf Goraiya.

According to anti-terrorism laws, trials can proceed even in the absence of the accused, under which this verdict was delivered.
