BNP Wins Landslide Majority in Bangladesh; Tariq Rahman Emerges as Strong Prime Ministerial Candidate

Dhaka (Monitoring Desk) – In historic general elections in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a two-thirds majority by winning 209 out of 300 seats in the national parliament.

Local sources reported that these elections were held following an anti-government movement in 2024, which ended the long-standing rule of Sheikh Hasina Wajed. BNP leader Tariq Rahman won his seat, and the party called upon its workers for special prayers for the country’s progress.

The BNP manifesto includes financial support for poor families, limiting the Prime Minister’s term to 10 years, strengthening the economy through foreign investment, and taking measures against corruption.

Meanwhile, Shafiq Rahman, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, conceded defeat and announced that his party would play a constructive opposition role. Under his leadership, the alliance won 68 seats.
