Azerbaijan and Green Climate Fund Agree to Strengthen Climate Cooperation

Baku (Turkey News) Azerbaijan’s Presidential Special Representative for Climate Affairs Mukhtar Babayev met with Thomas Eriksen, Director for Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East at the Green Climate Fund, on the sidelines of a regional environmental summit.

During the meeting, discussions were held on ongoing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Green Climate Fund and the prospects of further strengthening it. Both sides discussed various aspects of climate finance, including improving access to funding and supporting mitigation and adaptation projects.

Mukhtar Babayev said that expanding climate finance is an important necessity, and for this purpose, continuous and reliable financial resources are essential in order to achieve the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

He further stated that in light of the outcomes of COP29 and new financial targets, strengthening global cooperation is essential to help developing countries address climate challenges.
