Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s Visit to the UK, Key Talks Expected on Bilateral Relations and Regional Issues

Istanbul (Turkiye News) Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will begin a two-day official visit to the United Kingdom starting Thursday, during which he will hold meetings with the British Foreign Secretary, members of Parliament, and other senior officials.

According to diplomatic sources, during his visit Hakan Fidan will also address an event organized by the Global History Centre and the Global Order Programme at Oxford University, and will meet members of the Turkish community and business representatives in the UK.

Sources say the Turkish foreign minister is expected to express satisfaction over the positive progress in Turkey-UK relations and will emphasize expanding bilateral cooperation and increasing trade volume.

He is also expected to stress the need to upgrade the existing Free Trade Agreement to further boost mutual trade.

Hakan Fidan will highlight the role of around 500,000 Turkish citizens living in the UK as an important bridge in human, cultural, and economic relations between the two countries.

During the talks, concerns are also likely to be raised over delays in permanent residency applications of Turkish nationals.

Both sides are expected to discuss cooperation in defense industries and energy sectors, particularly in nuclear and renewable energy.

Regional issues will also form a key part of the discussions, including ongoing Iran-US talks, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and efforts for a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war.
