Progress toward a digital economy as global company shows interest in expanding investment in Pakistan

Islamabad (Turkiye Khabar): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with a delegation led by Kaan Terzioglu, Chief Executive Officer of VEON Group, where discussions focused on mutual cooperation and potential investment opportunities.

Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister stated that the government is committed to promoting foreign investment, particularly in the information technology sector. He emphasized that Pakistan aims to enhance transparency by expanding digital systems across various sectors of the economy.

He further noted that, following the auction of 5G spectrum, all relevant institutions are working collaboratively to provide high-quality internet services to the public through telecom operators.

The prime minister added that Pakistan’s young population can play a vital role in strengthening the economy and improving access to modern services through active participation in IT and digital platforms. He said the growing interest of youth in this sector is also attracting global investors.

On the occasion, VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu thanked the prime minister for the meeting and appreciated the government’s initiatives toward a cashless system and full digital transformation of the economy. He also expressed his company’s intention to further increase its investment in Pakistan.

The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, and Aamir Ibrahim, along with other senior officials.
