Baku (Turkey News Desk) Extensive preparations have been completed for the Baku Marathon 2026, organized on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
According to the Azerbaijani state news agency AZERTAC, 25,000 people have registered for this year’s marathon.
Organizers said that athletes from various countries including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine will participate in the race.
The report added that, as in previous years, persons with disabilities and individuals with Down syndrome will also take part in the competition.
It was further stated that a new world record was recently set at the London Marathon, where Kenyan athlete Sebastian Sawe completed the 42.195 km distance in 1 hour 59 minutes and 30 seconds. In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa secured victory.
The Baku Marathon will be held for the first time over the full 42 km distance on May 3, starting from Flag Square and finishing in the Seaside Boulevard area. Top three athletes in both men’s and women’s categories will be awarded prizes.
