Armenia’s commitment to normalizing relations with Türkiye and Azerbaijan

Istanbul (Turkey News) Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that he is confident his country will achieve its goal of normalizing relations with Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

According to the Armenian news agency, referring to a video released on social media, the Prime Minister once again reiterated Yerevan’s commitment to restoring full diplomatic relations with both countries.

Nikol Pashinyan said he believes that the goal of restoring relations with Türkiye and Azerbaijan will certainly be achieved, which will create balance in Armenia’s foreign policy and provide the country with new opportunities.

He stated that the absence of diplomatic relations with Türkiye is a sign of imbalance in foreign policy, and that Armenia needs to establish relations with all countries.

Emphasizing his point, he said that this is not a matter of desire or choice but a practical necessity to establish formal relations with Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and all other states.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Türkiye recognized Armenia in 1991; however, in 1993, following Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region, Ankara closed its border and suspended diplomatic relations.

Later, after the Second Karabakh War in 2020, signs of improvement in relations between the two countries emerged, and negotiations at the level of special representatives began for normalization.
